This novel treats the social situation between traditionalism and modernism, “between the magic of the past and the mystery of the present“, masterfully symbolized by the mystical Sufi conception of life of the individual and the entire community.
Zein’s character is absolutely unforgettable, mystically connected with the supernatural forces which inevitably recalls the heroes of myths and legends.
The afterword entitled “Realism and mysticism in The wedding of Zein“ contains an analysis through the eyes of various critics and very briefly deals with the problems of its translation in the light of given linguistic expression and style.
